A streak is evidence that something has been redistributed or left behind. That “something” may be skin oil, cooking aerosol, old product, dissolved minerals, cloth contamination or simply too much new cleaner. The solution is controlled removal—not endless polishing with the same cloth.
Why glass shows every mistake
Glass is smooth, reflective and normally viewed in changing light. Very thin films alter reflection and become visible as haze or lines. Fast evaporation can help, but only when contamination has been lifted and the remaining formulation leaves minimal residue.
The four variables that matter
The Modulus streak-control method
- Remove abrasive particles.Dust frames and brush away grit before wiping the glass.
- Work out of direct hot sunlight.A hot pane can accelerate uneven drying.
- Use controlled product. For small mirrors or overspray-sensitive areas, apply to the cloth rather than spraying broadly.
- Clean the perimeter first.Residue often accumulates at frames, seals and corners.
- Wipe the main pane methodically.Use overlapping passes and refold the cloth frequently.
- Finish with a clean, dry face.Inspect from a second angle before adding more product.

What different streak patterns can tell you
Broad cloudy haze
Often indicates product excess, heavy contamination or a cloth that is spreading dissolved soil. Reset with a clean cloth rather than layering more cleaner.
Fine repeated lines
Can follow cloth edges, damaged fibres or a contaminated squeegee. Inspect the tool and change direction to distinguish technique from residue.
Persistent spots
May be mineral deposits rather than ordinary film. Diagnose the deposit and surface before moving to different chemistry.
Mirrors, tinted glass and coated surfaces
Do not assume every reflective surface is plain glass. Mirror edges, window films, screens, anti-reflective coatings and electronic displays may have specific restrictions. Avoid saturating mirror edges or allowing liquid into frames. Follow manufacturer instructions for specialist coatings.
Build a repeatable glass kit
Separate tools used for greasy internal glass from those used for mirrors and windows. A cloth that previously carried polish, kitchen grease or fabric conditioner can introduce a film even after laundering. Keep several low-lint cloths available so changing to a clean face is a normal part of the process.
On a small mirror, controlled product on the cloth protects edges and nearby surfaces. On a large compatible pane, divide the area into sections and complete wetting, soil removal and finishing within each one. If a verified-clean test square finishes clear while the rest remains hazy, the problem is likely method, cloth loading or old residue—not the glass itself.
Common mistakes
- Cleaning in strong sun on a hot pane.
- Using fabric conditioner on cleaning cloths, which can contribute hydrophobic residue.
- Using kitchen roll that sheds fibres.
- Ignoring dirty frames and seals before cleaning the glass.
- Applying more cleaner when the actual problem is a saturated cloth.
Frequently asked questions
Are newspaper and vinegar necessary?
No. A suitable low-residue cleaner and clean compatible cloth provide a controlled system without improvised mixtures.
Why does a mirror look clean straight on but streaked from the side?
Thin films change reflection at certain angles. Low-angle inspection is therefore part of the process.
Can 03 Glass be used on a television?
Do not infer screen compatibility from glass compatibility. Follow the equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
